You should go to PixelJoint and study colors haha
Twas what we did at Tigsource before - back when the flags held up were Spelunky, Fez, and Super Meat Boy.
All it takes it a little cohesion and you'll look professional.

This first step is to jump out of the muddy royalty free tag-art, same resolution everything, know your color palette, and jump into your muddy imaginations >:<)
