MetaMorphEyes

Post by ghostwriter »

So I'm working on an entry for the reddit game jam 4 and I thought I'd upload it here. It's currently a work in progress with the theme "Metamorphosis". Requires love 0.7.

I'm curious to know what goal is the game going to have, so far it looks interesting. Also, after a few times I collected every Eye in the screen, it started to slow down until it crashed.

Good luck with the Jam ;b

Looks cool. A couple of suggestions:
  • Given that you never do anything but move, you could get rid of the requirement to hold the mouse button down. You could get rid of the 'click to move' instruction (players will figure it out real quick), and save some wear and tear on payers' tendons.
  • It would be nice if the collision detection took the size of your 'eye ball' () into account.

You could really work this into something. :)
Booted, suited, and ready to get executed.

Hey thanks for the feedback :)
Yeah I'm turning it into an actual game, what I posted above is my first proof-of-concept of the eye-adding behaviour. The gameplay I'll be going for is:

Goal: achieve 15 eyes or so and defeat a boss
Gain eyes by fighting monsters of increasing difficulty.
Defeat monsters by shooting lasers from your eyes
Monsters, when dying, drop eyes for you to pick up
Your eyes are your health. Lose all your eyes, lose the game.

Here's an updated version!

The enemy (?) is interesting, but eye adding doesn't work :C
And it crashes when you leave the screen.
Overall, it's a great concept.

I'm not experiencing the crash on the edge of the screen.
Eye adding is working for me.

However, it does randomly freeze a few minutes in.

No edge crashes, no random freezes (though I only had it open for a few seconds at a time), but when you run out of eyes, any eye you add past the first resets your count to zero.

I like the concept. Can't wait until we get lasers of our own.
