Löve definitely needs a way to detect the current screen resolution. Anyway, in 0.7.0 you can use 0 as width and height to use desktop resolution.

Apparently not in the config file. I set it to 0 there and it crashed with a Bus Error.
Still would be nice to be able to retrieve the width and height of the current display. What happens on computers with multiple displays? It seems to only detect the main display. I have an ACD connected right now with a resolution of 1680x1050 but it only detects the main 1280x800 display.
