Love To Type - typing tutor

Post by bblodget »

Hi, I have written my first love program called Love to Type. It is based on a touch typing program for the old TI-99/4a computer. The program has lessons and a game. The lessons introduce new keys and provide practice. The goal of the game is to get the airplane flying as fast as you can. You make it go faster by typing (correctly) faster.

The code was written for Love 0.6.2. It is a work in progress. Comments and suggestions welcome.

Releases
v0.5 - https://github.com/downloads/bblodget/L ... pe0_5.love
Changes: Made SPACE work like RETURN at the end of a line.

v0.4 - https://github.com/downloads/bblodget/L ... pe0_4.love

Nice, one thing that is kind of awkward are the spaces and then return (imo though), but something that was way more annoying was the lack of backspace (though that may very well be intended).

I feel the same. Either using space to "confirm" or just check whether it's good every keypress. Return is bad because it forces my hands to go three keys to the right, while using space enables me to let my hands rest on the normal position.
Help us help you: attach a .love.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll add having the spacebar confirm a word or line so you can use it instead of the return if you like. Ignoring the "delete" key is done on purpose (as guessed). It forces more practice, also using it tends to move the hands away from the home position.

Hmm. I think I found it at http://freeonlinegames.com/game/air-typer.html ? This one looks like you need to know how to type before you play. I am writing something for my kids who don't know how to type at all. The game levels are in sync with the lesson levels so they can play the game with just the keys they have learned so far.
