BLAST FLOCK

Post by TRASEVOL_DOG »

Hi! This is my first post here so first off, I'm TRASEVOL_DOG, I make a ton of tiny things on the Pico-8 and about a month ago I decided to give a try to the LÖVE engine! I started making a 2D dogfighting game and now it is done!

Image

Control lots of ships. Destroy lots of ships. Save those you can save.
Such are your three main activities in BLAST FLOCK!

Featuring:
- lots of tiny warplanes
- lots of bullets
- lots of explosions
- Pico-8 inspired graphics
- only-mouse controls
- challenge!

You can download it here!

I'd love to know what you think of it!

You can extract the love file from the Windows executables, but yeah, it'd be better.

Nice game! A bit hard. But I might get the hang of it if I played some time. I like the graphics.

It looks tight, it feels tight. It's pretty good all around.
I'm way too sober for this...

Feels like there's too much stuff going on on the screen to actually play, as opposed to spray and pray. Looks very cool nonetheless. Perhaps objects could be smaller and be more visually distinct?

Brutal Doom dev had to overcome this issue, too much blood and gore looked nice but got in the way of actually playing the game, and got old pretty quick too.

Hey I know you from Twitter! (I'm @TheRealAbed) I love your work! You do some really awesome stuff in both PICO and Löve. I'm so jealous.

You need to stick around. We need more cool projects like yours, both Löve and PICO, to inspire us.

Hey! I'm so sorry I disappeared for the last three weeks! I did 7drl right after starting this thread and then I took 7 more days to finish my 14drl game. (you can check it out there if you're interested, it's a Pico-8 game)

Thanks for the feedback everyone! Fun and difficult was what I wanted, so it's good to know it's how it felt! And yes, some people did play it more and did get much better at it and that's great too! :D

I added a Linux build last week, with the help of Josefnpat! :D

@raidho38, objects are already very small, I don't think making them even smaller would help. As you get the hang of it, there's less spray and pray and more play. Plus, they really spray only when you let the cursor in the middle of the screen, which certainly doesn't work that well haha.

@Jasoco, I want to stick around! I'm not that great with forums but once I get some more experience with Love2D I hope I can interact more with you guys!
