Abandoned Prototype/Alpha

Post by RadioactiveGears »

So I've been working on a game called "1989" for 2 years now, and I recently decided to start from scratch for the 3rd time or so (for both programming and artistic reasons). Since all the assets and code will be redone I might as well release it here.
There is some gameplay in it, but it is obviously not a polished game. Feel free to play it if you want or look into the code (though there's nothing impressive in it really).
In case anyone wonders yes the multiplayer works but I am not gonna release the server software (I have reasons and I am too lazy). This multiplayer code was largely made by Davidobot around 3 years ago and has had a few tweaks by myself.

:awesome:

Tried 1 of the levels, not a big fan of the wave based combat.

But hell I love the graphics :D, nice atmosphere aswell with the music/sfx.

The graphics was actually one of the reasons I decided to remake the game.
This is the new male player (WIP):

As for the gameplay, it was going to have stealth based mission as well.
Most of the backend systems for that were already in the alpha, such as:
Silencers for weapons, primitive noise detection and visual dectection for enemies, and the ability to have patrol routes for enemies (or just have them stand still).

However I am not sure if I want the whole mission system, considering going back to one of the original concepts of having an RPG style game with lots of survival focus. Going to reuse all the music though, most of it is soviet music.

Well.. the music is very distracting )) Try this for some inspiration ))
(16+ vulgar language)

All the rest is very nice.

Oh. The options. On selecting some options I wanted to see the instant changes on the screen. I was really confused on pressing [BACK].
The new GFX is better. Way to go! :awesome:

Yes the options menu wasn't the best. Gonna see what I can do to improve it in the remake.

Also vehicles and the player system is working:
