Hey, I've been working on a puzzle game this past week. I've been posting on the itch.io forums about it, but I've neglected you guys! So I'm gonna fix that.
The game is a lot like Bejeweled, but you rotate tiles instead of swapping them, and you have to make squares of the same color instead of 3 in a row. I've been working on making some trippy backgrounds. Here's a video of today's progress:

Right now I'm just doing behind the scenes work that won't make for any cool gifs, so here's a powerup!

Re: Unnamed Bejeweled-like puzzle game!
wow, this looks really polished and well-made! How do you do the backgrounds behind the scenes?
s-ol.nu
Code: Select all
print( type(love) )
if false then
baby:hurt(me)
end

The blue background in the gif is just circles that move down and to the left, but their x position also varies sinusoidally depending on their y position, creating a nice wavy effect. The zen mode background actually uses the same circles for the stars, and the motion blur/smearing effect is just accomplished by drawing a transparent rectangle on the canvas instead of clearing it all the way. There's also a background here that I got by having growing circles and not clearing the canvas.S0lll0s wrote:wow, this looks really polished and well-made! Looks very nice. I like the Tetris-like presentation. Nice sound effects too.
However, it should be pointed out that this gameplay mechanic has been done in Bejeweled Twist (2008):

So it would be nice to see a slightly different gimmick in the gameplay.
Good job overall, I see a lot of potential.

The link is dead (check using incognito mode).

He seemed to removed it from itch.io

Oh wow, I'm dum. I forgot to post the secret link:

Also,

Also,
Ivan, you're kinda right. I don't think there's anything *wrong* with the mechanics, but they could definitely be more distinctive. Right now the game is a pretty generic puzzle game. I'll see what else I can think of.ivan wrote:Looks very nice. I like the Tetris-like presentation. Nice sound effects too.

Since 0.10.0/mobile was released now I can officially say "It doesn't work on Android or 0.10.0"

Re: Unnamed Bejeweled-like puzzle game!
Oh yeah, maybe I should release some new builds then. My copy is updated for 0.10.0, but not the .love files.bobbyjones wrote:Since 0.10.0/mobile was released now I can officially say "It doesn't work on Android or 0.10.0"
