[LD34] SAUROPOD vs THEROPOD

Post by Tijn »

It's the 3rd time I've participated in Ludum Dare, but the first time I've used LÖVE to make my game. It was a really nice experience, I'll definitely use it again for the next times.

Controls:
-----
- arrow keys to move
- X and C for combat

About:
-----
In SAUROPOD vs THEROPOD you assume the role of a small Sauropod with great ambitions. Watch out though, because a pack of aggressive Theropods are hunting for you! Can you survive long enough to evolve into an epic dinosaur that will stand the test of time?

Features:
-----
* 200+ actual real dinosaur names
* 70+ voice recorded dinosaur sounds (that's me impersonating dinos)
* infinite evolution (they just keep on growing)
* nerve-wracking combat (using just two buttons)
* randomly generated levels
* gameplay spanning millions of years

There's also a web build available that runs in any modern browser: http://dev.martijnfrazer.nl/ld34/web

This is done using rnlf's Motor2d: https://github.com/rnlf/motor/

The web version is experimental, but it renders most of the game flawlessly :)

I started the game (it took a while, I had to wait several seconds on a gray screen after the loading bar) and moved a bit, then I got this and Banished running on Wine crashed as well.

Tried the web build again without Banished open, this time it worked. It's nice, even though it gets kind of boring after a while. Some of the sounds are just hilarious and I think I've been a Jobaria twice. I especially liked the fight music, which somehow reminded me of this.
Nice entry overall ^^

Thanks for playing my game, Nixola! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Music is about the only thing in gamedev that I can somewhat pull off properly, with all the other things I'm just struggling and making it up as I go along. But I like doing it, so I'll keep it up :)

Amazing sounds!
lg.newImage("cat.png") -- made possible by lg = love.graphics
-- Don't force fullscreen (it frustrates those who want to try your game real quick) -- Develop for 1280x720 (so people can make HD videos)

Thank you!!

I get a lot of responses about the music. People seem to especially like the battle music. Nice to hear the other music is appreciated as well :)
