Which game would you remake?

Post by kbmonkey »

Setting

You finished munching some sweet-n-sour mushrooms and are about to crack open that fortune cookie, when *poof* a génie appears, granting you a wish.

You wish for time to burn and no bills to pay.

Question

Which favourite game would you remake?

* hypothetical question - this is all wishful thinking folks :monocle:

----

I would remake Alien Breed, Tower Assault

Nice choice. I played Alien Breed: TA back in my Amiga A1200 AGA days - it was a blast.
I found a clone called Alien Breed Obliteration some time ago when I looked for a multiplayer clone to play togehter with a friend. But sadly the multiplayer part of it never has been finished.

My choice:

Air Taxi (PD)

I've already started it as a project some time ago (but never finished it) and redone parts of it lately. This game is way easier to remake because of its little content but anyway I'm a bit unmotivated to continue, one reason is that I'm not happy with my pixel art for it.

I kind of already did with the help of a member here named retrotails, but I never finished it because I couldn't figure out how to make it actually fun. It was a remake of an Atari 2600 game called Fast Food.

Original thread: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=47231

The original game:

My remake:

One day I'll go back and finalize it and give the amazing art justice so retrotails didn't do it all for nothing. I wonder if he's still here.

@MadByte, that is a nice remake! I have not seen Air Taxi before (sadly!), but love that gameplay - easy to learn, hard to master. I crashed a couple passengers already :ehem:

@Jasoco, classic and funny! Purple Pickles remind me of aubergines (those are really good in fact!)

I don't know if I would remake this myself, but I'm quite surprised that after 5 years of indie avalanche this hasn't been copied yet:

Sid Meier's Pirates!

It's one of the best games of all time, and as far as I know there's nothing quite like it.
I google "games like Sid Meier's Pirates!" like once a year - so far I haven't found anything convincing.

I am a bit torn from the fact that i have different games i would want to remake for different reasons (like, remake because it'd be a challenge, or remake because the game was fun), but in my opinion, the one game i would choose to remake (and also add new stuff to) would be Populous: The Beginning... if not for the fact, that people still play an online version of it.. that said, the solar system level selection was and will be my long standing fetish :3 ___________________________ So, i'll say this instead:

The PC version of Wargames, based on the movie. Both this and pop:tb came out the same year, 1998
Me and my stuff :3True Neutral Aspirant. Why, yes, i do indeed enjoy sarcastically correcting others when they make the most blatant of spelling mistakes. No bullying or trolling the innocent tho.

I've got a lot on my list, but I'll post the one I was considering last night!

The Binding of Crate Box

I'd totally want to make a rebirth to this, much to the Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, in terms of what it did for the game.
That would probably want him on board and then it'd be quite a bit of planning, but hey!

You know, I was thinking of Rebirthing it too since I really don't know what to do with it... Then I thought that I'd still encounter the same two issues that are preventing me from updating the original (which I was apparently allowed to take over): lack of motivation (mainly) and lack of (enough) time (even though I could still do something I guess).

I've been feeling inspired by this game lately, so if I was going to remake something, it would probably be that.

I'm already in the process of remaking Thrust II and I've got some more in my plans. Most for ZX Spectrum, though, so they're probably little know. Black Crystal is one I started but didn't get too far with. I may get back to it some day.

101 monochrome mazes is high in my list. It's likely to be the next one. I already made a version in Pascal many years ago, but it's difficult to run these days without dosemu.
