I just saw some posts about Unreal Engine 4 being "free", as in you can get sources for free and use it for free, but if you make some money with the product you sell, you have to pay some revenue from it.
I still think this is pretty nice deal if going for making 3D-stuff. https://www.unrealengine.com/blog/ue4-is-free

Re: UE4 is now free...
It's the best deal that has ever existed for any 3D game engine, by most measures.
The 5% royalty only applies to money made from the game above a certain threshold ($3,000) every 3 months. So if your UE4 games makes $4,000 in 3 months, then you'll have to pay Epic 5% of $1000 ($4000 - $3000), which is just $50 USD.

Apparently Valve's Source 2 is going to be free as well.

On the other hand, I don't have any actual information on what the running expenses are for a game studio, but I doubt the engine is the sore spot.

Good times indeed.
I've already downloaded UE4, it's actually really simple and high-level and I'm gonna use it to practice my C++ but I don't think that I'm going to actually make games with it as I don't have a 3D artist and UE 2D mode doesn't look so good

It tells me it's $1500? Or $75 a month.Jeeper wrote:And unity 5 joins in with offering "Engine with all features" for free + no royalty:

[edit] Oh right, I was thinking "Customisable splash screen" was part of "all features", but apparently it's not. :/

Well, I think they mean that you get access to all tools in the engine.DaedalusYoung wrote:It tells me it's $1500? Or $75 a month.Jeeper wrote:And unity 5 joins in with offering "Engine with all features" for free + no royalty:
