The Rose of Clay

Post by ~Tidal »

Hi I'm Alberto.
For me, it's the first time I use .lua/LOVE2d, and I'm not disappointed at all. It's not the first time, though.
Anyway, I've been working in my free time on a game, called "The Rose of Clay". Sadly, I'm not a programmer, I don't study to be one (actually I'm studying physical therapy), but I still enjoy pixel art and gaming when I have time.
Anyway, let's talk about the Rose of Clay.
The general concept is a zeldesque RPG roguelike. The setting is a world where mankind exist no more, and nature and magic has taken its place.
So, basically, every single vertebrate species developed Broca and Wernicke areas, and their frontal lobe grew.
In other words, they gained language, opposable thumb use, and standing. And also the decency to wear clothes.
So...different starting species are planned (Dog, Owl, Rabbit and Whale), and different classes too, but only some of them will be unlocked at first. I was thinking about Dog as starting character, and Fighter and Illusionist as starting classes.
Several features are planned, like, artifacts, level up, spells and shops. And even altars.

And some concept art, too:

Also, her name's Helen:

EDIT: I forgot, as my second game, it is very likely for it to be completely free, or at the best, free donation.
If it gains enough interest, or I have enough motivation, I'm also planning a DLC. Maybe it will cost a bit (0.50 €).

From what I can tell, this will play out a lot like Binding of Isaac?

Gameplay will be akin to BoI. Even if there is different stuff, like spells, but I like the concept of a bullet hell rpg.
Davisdude thanks.

I definitely like the aesthetic going on so far.
I'll give you my full thoughts when I see it in action, but for now, it's looking good. Let's hope it'll stay good!

Thanks.
Also, I was thinking: by now, the character faces the way it is going. Maybe it's better for it to face the direction it is shooting? Moving backwards makes more sense than throwing swords from the back.

I'm nesting all the quotes up in this, but definitely having the player face the way he's shooting would make more sense. It also logically works: You shouldn't blindly throw a sword from behind you in real life, right? (Then again why would you throw the sword in general)
