Male or Female
I was wondering what is the ratio of male to female of people who make games. I know it would most likely be more guys but I wanna see by how much and I wonder why females don't try making games.

There was an identical poll a couple months ago: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=77159

And watching:

Most of those articles and talks focus more on the industry rather than hobby game development, but it's all related.
This is a rather controversial topic (unfortunately.) Here is some reading:bobbyjones wrote:I wonder why females don't try making games.

And I ,not to be sexist, think girls are scared to be judge for multiple reason one there's always the being called a geek thing and other names. There been accounts of males in the industry making fun of females in the work place. Or females just not getting equal opportunities. The last one applies to most jobs though it isn't only related to game development
Re: Male or Female
I think it has something to do with the reason why you see men at the very bottom like the scum of the Earth like Rolf Harris & Hitler and Adam Lanza. You also see more men at the very heights of human ingenuity & knowledge Nikola Tesla, Edward Snowden, Linus Torvalds and Juilan Assange and others. It likely has something to do with cowardice.bobbyjones wrote:I was wondering what is the ratio of male to female of people who make games. I'm pretty sure this is bullshit.Atton wrote:I think it has something to do with the reason why you see men at the very bottom like the scum of the Earth like Rolf Harris & Hitler and Adam Lanza. The fact of the matter is that the women at the top aren't remembered. See: that one episode of Neil deGrasse Tyson's 'Cosmos', Rosalind Franklin was only recognised after her death for her work in the discovery of the double helix of DNA, and programming used to be a woman's job, back when everyone thought the most important part of computing was the hardware, like Margaret Hamilton who worked on the Apollo missions for NASA, and who also invented Software Engineering, parallel and asynchronous computing, priority scheduling, end-to-end testing, and a huge chunk of human-computer interface theory. Apparently she's still active in the field right now. There is so much awesome work done by genius women who have been forgotten as their male peers were celebrated.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marie_Curie
For every woman who achieved anything of value 1000 men have achieved the same or more.
In fact the cowardice of women is reflected in law. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selective_ ... n_of_women
Few women would ever sign there death warrant for what they believed in, Edward Snowden, Juilan Assange, Aaron Swartz all did exactly that not even a decade ago. You can't force women to register for military service in the western world, you can't take there license and force them to sign away there freedom like you can do men. They have greater politcal power however do not have greater responsibility, I think that is reason to refer to them as cowards.
