Hello löve community. Today i introduce you to my latest game called "May contain squares". (last minute name)

May contain squares is a weekend project, Therefore it's not a very good game. The gameplay is very minimal, But my focus was more on making everything look smooth.

How to play:
You control the white square that spawns at the bottom of the screen. Green and orange squares fall from the top of the screen. Your goal is to collect the green ones, and avoid the orange ones.

When green squares are collected, The player grows. Once the player reaches a certain size. The level is complete.

When orange squares are collected, The player shrinks down to his original size and turns red. If the player is red and collects a orange square you lose.

The game gets a harder with each level. And probably impossible before you even reach level 10. (i've only been able to reach level 8)

EDIT: I've just realised the default resolution may be too big for some screens. If you unpack the .love and change the resolution in conf.lua the game will adjust to that. Looks best of the width and height are the same.

Pretty cool game! Here are some thoughts:
  • The game increments the level counter by 1 even when I lose. Though maybe it just says that and the difficulty remains the same.
  • An interesting dynamic is that sometimes the green squares happen to clump together. So in any of the higher levels, I want to get those clumps as fast as possible, because waiting any longer would mean losing.
  • I think the controls are a bit slippery, maybe it'd be better if the player square came to a halt immediately?

Thank you for your input, And for bringing the bug to my attention. Can't believe i missed that. I've fixed the level bug, And tightened up the controls a bit. The player still still slides, but less.
