Philip - short gbjam ode to philip seymour hoffman

Philip is a gameboy ode to the late Philip Seymour Hoffman. Play through Twister, Boogie Nights, Punch Drunk Love, Capote, Synecdoche New York, and The Master-- plus a crazy ending! Enjoy!

~10 minutes to play.

Made with LÖVE :) Made for the #gbjam. A 10-day game jam to make a gameboy game. 160x144 screen, and only 4 colors at a time. Scaling was allowed, so we scaled to 4x. But one could turn the scale down to 1, and it'd run at the native 160x144 resolution.

Download and play the game here: http://gamejolt.com/games/other/philip/32016/

More about the #gbjam and other submissions here (not necessarily made with Love): http://jams.gamejolt.io/gbjam3

If you want to dig into the code, download the Linux/Other OS version. It's just the .love file. Warning: it was a jam, and the game called for basically a state-machine, so the code is a mess! But maybe you'll find it interesting, being Love users.

Lastly, I'll just say I had never used Love previous to this, but it was really a blast to use it. Worked right away, wiki & forums were great, and easily distributed. Thanks for making and supporting this cool framework :) I'll be moving on to Oculus VR stuff, so not much Love in my future, but I'd recommend it to anybody doing 2D.

Thank you if you play. Feedback and comments and questions are welcome.

This is a very cool game. Really trippy! Great job with all the art and the DMG01 style!

Thanks for playing!

The art was all made by my friend Dylan (@aintnofuntime). He's super talented, and probably open to working with people. Contact if interested.

Murii, thank you so much for playing. Glad you enjoyed it.

As for drawing skill.. well.. I don't have any either! Not really. Not at the level of Dylan, the game's artist. But hey, he can't do programming at all. I bet a lot of artists say, "Why can everyone except me write code?"

But hey, I looked at Rigid Boy and Epic Time, and I don't think the art is bad at all. Like you say in your sig: try hard every day to be better. And fail. Fail a lot. Over and over. You can definitely improve your drawing skill, or any skill, if you focus on it.

Bonus: I'm soon going to teach myself low poly 3d modeling, so I can make my own art assets for VR games. It'll be a long journey, but I know I can do it with hard work. I taught myself programming, after all.

Good luck! Thanks for playing :)
