CHM Help File under construction

Post by lowcraft »

Hello,

I'm under to produce a chm help based on the latest version of löve2d, version 0.9.1.
I would like to know if someone is interesting about this !
The first version will be in english, and, I'll try to produce for each language, or share the source file if anyone want to do it !
I don't know when the CHM will be available, but I hope soon as possible !

But a large people knows what CHM is ! my post is 1) To know if someone is interesting about this format (like me), and 2) who want to produce each language of this format ! (if no one, it's me, but, i'm an native french, and the second version of chm to produce).

I hope I can show to you something in a few weeks.

I just notice that you're new here, welcome to the forum :)
Some people might now what CHM is but if you explain what it is then maybe you'd get even more people interesed in your project.

Isn't CHM a Windows Help file format? (Basically HTML if memory serves)

Which means OS X and Linux people wouldn't be able to even use it anyway.

It's better to just create it all in HTML so it's at least cross-platform.

I assume that the CHM is "only" workin'on windows system, but, you can get a viewer to show chm file, as xchm (not tested yet), and iChm for mac os x.
But the CHM is not the "final" documentation as-is ! but an another way to get a documentation.
If anyone who have mac os x and linux want to send a feedback about a chm viewer, it can be help us to understood that CHM don't replace a full html documentation, or a website as wiki, or pdf file, but it's just an another way and a another choice, for people like/want it.

Hope this documentation will be soon available as for your and also for multi-platform.

Good week-end.

(sorry for my "english)

The CHM documentation (for me), it's a easy way to have a portable doc, better than PDF.
The another way : A full documentation in single html (or multiple), the CHM is just a compiled html.

I'm not really a fan of creation docs :), but, by the way of lua script (or whatever), and the documentation in a structured format, we can generate not only for html ! just wait and see !

One question well, must I require the auth for using image (logo) to create this doc :

Actually, if there was a CHM documentation for Löve, I'd use it definitely.
So , thanks in advance for that.
And if you were inclined to maintain it updated, It'd be awesome.
But, as some great people already said, keep in mind it is only useful for Windows users. :)

Wndows users, not only, a quickly search as linux user I was, chm can be view under X11 desktop software, apt-cache search is your friend :) (for debian user), and for mac os x user, google is also your "friend" (as if they found)
The chm can be have cookbook part, and you are all welcome to add some tips, hints, or other cool stuffs !
