I think the lack of feedback happened for several reasons:

• There are several very good IDEs out there; the main one seems to be Zerobrane Studio. Your IDE was just an alpha. You should have mentioned how it compared to existing solutions; what it did better or worse.
• Adding one or two screenshots spices things up notably
• Lots of people use linux/mac. Was XHH windows-only?
• The only way of getting it was via a forum post. I would at least have expected a github repo. I don't want to use a tool that stops being developed after a while; I want to continue using it, and be able to fix bugs on my own if I want to.
• By removing the download and posting that comment, you are coming out as a bit immature and not very reliable. This gives me even less reasons to use your software. How do I know that you will not get angry later on and remove it from the web?

Getting feedback is not always easy - it's marketing. There's people who do that for a living, because not everyone can. Understand that people own you nothing. The trick is making something so awesome that they just can't help but post something on your thread. Be very grateful when this happens, but don't be surprised if it doesn't.

My advice: stop posting on this thread, and hope people forget about it (give us 2 weeks ). Put your code somewhere visible, like github or bitbucket.

Then add features that you want, and/or differentiate it from other IDEs or editors. A good way of doing this is using those others editors for a while. Copy the parts that work like you want, and improve those that you think you can improve.

Finally create a new thread that lists those features, and has some nice screenshots.

Even then, it is possible that you don't get feedback. Keep adding features and posting with each significant milestone you reach (don't forget the screenshots).

If you keep this up for a while, there are only 3 possible outcomes:

• You start getting feeback
• You don't get feedback, but you get a tool that is very useful for you
• You don't get feedback, you don't get a very useful tool, but you have learned lots of new things

In all cases, you'll win

Yeah, sorry, I totally meant Zerobrane. Updating my post.

My carbon-based memory gives too much emphasis to the first and last letters of a word.

Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoatnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteers be at the rghit pclae.

@kikito: Why are you so damn nice? And how do we get more of you for the forums?

@XXK: Kikito sums it up nicely and well, and you would be smart to listen to him. I have tons of open source projects on my github (41 to be exact) and very few of them are actually renown. Most of my projects fall under his second and third point.

If you keep this up for a while, there are only 3 possible outcomes:

• You start getting feeback
• You don't get feedback, but you get a tool that is very useful for you
• You don't get feedback, you don't get a very useful tool, but you have learned lots of new things

If you're really interested in folks adopting your software, you need to advertise it. Reddit, HN, etc.

If you're interested in folks contributing, you need to provide a feasible workflow, like using git with Github and its issue queue.

But I don't understand why I should put my code on github. How exactly does that work where people just add code to mine? Does that usually work better?

Again, thanks kikito. I'm gonna keep working on this program and then work on a super spectacular new thread in about half a month.
Recently I actually started rewriting the code. The code I started writing back in May was shortsighted and lacked comments. My new code is way more organized. Anyways... back to werk.
