i just noticed that last link, thats a cool little site
not a huge archive, and not really anything not seen before
but it does conveniently put it all there in 1 place without endless Google searches of blogs that cross link like nuts

Re: Free game resources
I want to let you know that there's a pixel art competition at OGA (with cash price) but didn't think I should open a new thread for it
In any case, the aim of the compo is to create accessoires for this sprite:

lg.newImage("cat.png") -- made possible by lg = love.graphics
-- Don't force fullscreen (it frustrates those who want to try your game real quick) -- Develop for 1280x720 (so people can make HD videos)

This map editor saved us weeks not having to develop one for a game programming course over the summer. You can save maps in lua format, the base64 encoding and gzipping can be disable in the options if nothing to decode it with is found.Inny wrote:I'm not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but at http://mapeditor.org/ you can get the free java program Tiled for use with making tile based games. Though, I'm not sure how equipped LOVE is yet to handle the base64gzip data.

as3fxr:
http://www.superflashbros.net/as3sfxr/
A program for making video game sounds. This is a flash port of the original .EXE (sfxr) so it should work on most recent computers.
The code is opensource and available on its google project page, if someone is interested.
By the way, it might be interesting to close down this thread and move it to a wiki page, now that we have such a shiny wiki.

I'm a little surprised that no one mentioned Musagi:
http://www.drpetter.se/project_musagi.html
It's a music editor. Windows only, but it runs just fine under WINE.
Dr Petter has a few other useful projects as well. Have a look around.

Re: Free game resources
There is a list of sites with CC-licensed music on this page.
http://creativecommons.org/legalmusicforvideos
They include Jamendo, which is already listed in the original posting. At least http://ccmixter.org/ , too, looks interesting. Please share with the forum if you find other good sites on the list. There's lots, so I didn't yet look at them all.
Another site worth a close look: http://sampleswap.org/ .
