UPDATE: It was a bug in a 3rd party lib used by LoveFrames if LoveFrames is required from a directory other than the root game directory. I read the web article on speed differences. I noticed, though it fared poorly in the speed tests, the author still had nice things to say about ease of use, etc. And frankly I can't imagine ever nearing a 6000 sprite threshold in an average 2d game, at least without going nuts with particles or wh...
